Eyelid Surgery

Our eyes allow us to see, but they also affect how others see us. If the eyes are truly the "windows to the soul," then sagging, tired looking eyes may not be reflecting your inner vitality. A nationally-recognized, board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon, Dr. Joseph Shovlin offers eyelid surgery in New Jersey at Outlook EyeCare. He can correct excess, wrinkled and puffy skin from the upper and lower eyelids for a brighter, more youthful looking eye area.

Rejuvenated Eyelids with Blepharoplasty

Eyelid skin is particularly delicate, and especially susceptible to environmental damage and the effects of aging. When the skin in this area loses elasticity, it may wrinkle and sag. In addition, fatty deposits may accumulate, causing puffiness and bags that contribute to an aged appearance.

Dr. Shovlin is a preeminent oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with extensive training and experience in leading-edge blepharoplasty techniques. He performs eyelid surgery on the upper and/or lower lids to restore a firmer, smoother, more rested appearance to the eyes without changing their shape. Dr. Shovlin also offers other cosmetic options to complement your eyelid surgery, such as injectable fillers or BOTOX® Cosmetic in New Jersey.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery involves removing excess skin through a tiny incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Any excess fat is removed, and remaining tissue is repositioned to re-create the youthful appearance of the eyelid. Dr. Shovlin may also alter tiny muscles in this area for improved results that do not change the natural shape of the eye.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

In some cases, lower eyelid surgery can be performed entirely through an incision made inside the lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar. Fatty tissue can be removed, contoured, or repositioned through this approach. To remove excess or significantly wrinkled skin or to tighten lax muscles, Dr. Shovlin will add a tiny incision just below the eyelashes.

Recovery and Results

Because Dr. Shovlin uses advanced techniques and leading edge technology, his eyelid surgery patients experience a more comfortable and quick recovery. Within 7 to 10 days, swelling and bruising have typically subsided enough to return to work and normal daily activities. Results will continue to emerge over the course of several weeks to months, with the ultimate outcome being eyes that look younger, more alert, and refreshed.
