At Outlook Eyecare, we are proud to offer IntraLASE® to our New Jersey LASIK patients for an entirely bladeless procedure. Dr. Joseph Shovlin, our LASIK specialist, is committed to offering our patients advanced options for optimal vision correction, such as all-laser LASIK – the latest technological breakthrough in laser eye surgery. IntraLASE technology has made LASIK safer and more precise, and it has made the procedure available to many individuals who were not good candidates for LASIK in the past.

The IntraLASE Difference

In order to understand the significance of all-laser LASIK, it is important to understand that there are 2 distinct steps involved with the LASIK procedure:

  • Creating a thin flap near the surface of the cornea that is folded back during treatment.
  • Reshaping the cornea with the excimer laser and replacing the flap.

With traditional LASIK, the flap is created with a mechanical blade called a microkeratome. The microkeratome contains an oscillating blade that passes over the cornea, cutting the flap.

Bladeless LASIK offers our patients, who come from in and around Hamilton Township, Princeton, and Monroe Township, numerous advantages, including:

  • Increased Safety – Because there is no variability in blade quality with the bladeless LASIK procedure, there is little or no risk of flap irregularities. The all-laser approach allows our surgeons at Outlook Eyecare to design the flap specifically to your eyes and visual needs.

  • Increased Precision – With IntraLASE technology, we can create a flap of uniform thickness, which is important to your visual outcome. Traditional, bladed LASIK created a flap with variable thicknesses that did not account for the curvature of the cornea. With all-laser LASIK we know the exact depth at which the flap is being created, enabling us to preserve the most corneal tissue. This leaves the patient with a stronger, more stable eye.

  • A Less Invasive Procedure – Bladeless LASIK is much less invasive than traditional LASIK, which utilizes a bladed device similar to a carpenter's plane. As it moves across the cornea it sometimes creates a painful abrasion on the front of the eye. With IntraLASE, Dr. Shovlin passes the beam of laser light through the cornea to create tiny bubbles at a preprogrammed depth. Since there is no friction on the front layer of the eye, this technique is less invasive and more comfortable for the patient.

At Outlook Eyecare, we are dedicated to assuring your optimal safety, comfort, and vision. We offer CustomVue® LASIK with IntraLASE technology in order to provide a better experience and improved results. This advanced technology also enables us to offer laser vision correction to a wider range of vision correction patients.
