Reconstructive Procedures

In addition to a full range of cosmetic procedures, Dr. Shovlin specializes in reconstructive surgery of the eye and surrounding facial structures. Oculoplastic procedures refer to a large variety of surgical procedures that deal with the orbit (eye socket), eyelids, tear ducts, and the face. These procedures include:

  • Treatment of tear duct obstructions
  • Repair of orbital fractures
  • Removal of tumors in and around the eyes
  • Surgical correction of a droopy eyelid (ptosis)

New Jersey patients of Dr. Shovlin, who visit from in and around Princeton, and Monroe Township, benefit from his extensive knowledge and training in both ophthalmic surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Oculoplastic procedures frequently serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. For example, eyelid surgery, a procedure for excessive and droopy eyelid skin, may improve peripheral vision as well as rejuvenate the eyelids. Repair of tear duct obstruction prevents tears from running out of the eyes and down the face and alleviates potentially serious facial infections. Repair of traumatic orbital fractures prevents double vision as well as a sunken eye appearance. The knowledgeable, helpful staff at Outlook Eyecare will work with you to determine whether your procedure may be covered – either partially or fully – by insurance.
